sunday night trip to san diego

Sunday night we had a quick errand to do all the way in San Diego so we decided to make it a worth while trip and enjoy a spontaneous date night in the Gaslamp district. Still somewhat dragging from our Halloween party the night before, we refueled with mango Red Bull and bruschetta (classy combination, right?) and then wandered around the festive streets highly amused by the random assortment of Halloween costumes.

We found ourselves standing in front of Jimmy Love’s and were immediately captivated by the sounds of Sinatra streaming from inside. So of course, we stopped in to enjoy the live jazz band and share a piece of cheesecake. Life is simply wonderful with you, Jesse Shane.

message in a bottle

We love Halloween. There, we said it. As soon as October 1st hits we are like little kids in anticipation of the coming cold weather, candy overload, and of course, our annual Halloween party.

This year we will turn our house into an all out haunted pirate ship adventure. To set the mood we sent out shipwrecked message in a bottle invitations which we hand dyed with coffee and burned around the edges for an authentic feel. Each invite was precisely rolled and tucked into a mailable bottle with a scoop of sand and eery excitement.

Argh! It’s time to set sail, or walk the plank.

a very sweet 16

We were lucky enough to host our niece’s Sweet 16 birthday party sleepover extravaganza, and let me tell you, we could not have been more excited (After all, planning is one of our favorite things to do).

We baked a lot of cupcakes, set out a sickly sweet candy bar, blew up dozens (more like hundreds) of helium balloons, and made sure to stock up on all the necessities for ice cream sundaes.

For the main event we put together a scavenger hunt around our town complete with a bag of props and costumes required throughout the adventure. Pictures were taken, fun was had, it was awesome.

Happy birthday pretty girl, we love you!

happiness is: hiking with dogs

We have started referring to our Friday morning ritual as H and B. Hike and breakfast. Because in our opinion you can’t have one without the other.

Ever since Dakoda’s off leash training we have fallen into a habit of starting the weekend off with an early a.m. hike with some of our favorite people (and pups). Followed by a leisurely breakfast while the tired canines sleep in the car.

This past Friday our good friend Zack and his awesome Bulldog Pork Chop joined in on the fun. And if you have never seen an English Bulldog run full speed down a trail only to clear a 4-foot ravine in one jump, you don’t know what you are missing.

Seriously, we all (dogs included) live for Friday mornings.
